Alexandria Szabo is a second-year architecture student in the College of Architecture, Design, and Construction at Auburn University. Her primary interest in religious structures extended from her family's travels, where she has been exposed to tours of cathedrals, monasteries, and basilicas throughout Central America, the United States, and Europe. She has always been amazed by the splendor and detailing that is commonplace of the Ancient World.
Due to this project, I have increased my perception and understanding of the religions of the world by their similarities and cross-cultural influences. Previously, a world religions course in high school equipped me with a spiritual understanding, synthesis, and critique of how the world interprets religion. A focus on influences and similarities expanded my general notion, but examining and researching religious structures became a different world. The researching process educated me on architectural archetypes and how different cultures are able to use the same form to produce something so aesthetically different. Not only have I gained a greater respect and inspiration from the feats of the ancient world, but I am able to see their timeless impact on our world today.
